2008 Afterschool Tennis Format:

How does it work?

During the first two weeks of the program children will get only instruction to make sure they are familiar with the strokes and rules of the game. In week number three is when the program combines instruction ( Mondays at 5:30) and League Play (Wednesdays at 5:30).

Playing League Format

  • Two courts will be assigned for the competition between teams.
  • There will be 8 rotations of 6 minutes each with a 6 minutes break after the first 4 rotations.
  • Every rotation will have 1 singles and 1 doubles match and the coach will assign the players rotation.
  • At the end of the 8 rotations every team should have played a total of 16 matches.
  • Every match won will score 1 point for the team towards the final score.
  • Players will keep score during the 6 minutes and player/team will rotate serve every 5 points just like in ping pong. Player/Team that score more points during the 6 min. will win the match. In case of a tie players will play one point to determine the winner.
  • If after all the rotations there is a tie (every team has won 8 matches), each team will select 2 players to play one doubles point for winner take all.
  • A player is not allowed to play his/her second singles match until everybody in the team has had their chance.

Practice and Match Schedule:  For the first two weeks of the season Mondays and Wednesdays will be practice only to allow players to feel comfortable with rules and skills.
